The Battle for Christianity

Sociopolitical Documentary hosted by Robert Beckford, published by BBC in 2016 – English narration

The Battle for Christianity
Christianity, we are led to believe, is in crisis, with believers being persecuted and killed across the world and church numbers declining in the UK. But in this well-meaning analysis, professor Robert Beckford examines how immigration in particular is boosting faith in Britain, at least, filling pews but also accentuating divisions between liberals and conservatives across all denominations especially on issues like sexuality.
There is little here that anyone with an active interest in the subject won’t know already but it’s hard not to warm to the way Beckford – and the Archbishop of Canterbury, who he also interviews – manages to end with the kind of ultimately optimistic note you’d want (and expect) from all believers.
Professor Robert Beckford looks at how immigration, radical social action, conservative morality and charismatic worship are all transforming the face of the faith and asks what that might mean for the future in an increasingly secular society.
